A community of Orthodox Christians that has gathered in Fawkner since 1968, under the protection of St Nektarios.
The parish began in 1968 to serve the Greek Orthodox community of Fawkner and the surrounding suburbs. In its early years the faithful gathered for worship in a house, before the church we see today was built. The foundation stone of the present church was laid in April 1975, and its fiftieth anniversary was celebrated in 2025. The founding priest was the late Fr Ioannis Limoyiannis, and Fr Spyridon Vandoros also served the parish faithfully for many years.
The church is blessed to hold a portion of the holy relics of St Nektarios, which the faithful come to venerate, especially when praying for the sick.
The church was designed by James Earle & Partners. It follows the centralised plan of the ancient Byzantine churches, built in precast concrete. Its features include a gold circular icon motif above the entrance, windows with Greek-cross metal screens, and a tiled water tap made to look like a traditional spring. The building is recognised in the Moreland Heritage Study as a place of local historic, architectural and social significance.
